You don't need the adsl modem to send a fax you just need the telephone line and the filter to avoid interference with the ADSL signal. I'm not sure why since getting ADSL it's not recognizing your 56k modem. Just try reconfiguring the fax software to point to your dial-up modem. You can’t use ADSL to send faxes.
