Yes, RADAR detectors work on RADARs. HOWEVER, police are getting smarted and are using LASERs which do not emit a constant signal and are not detectable with RADAR detectors. Also, the use of RADAR detectors in vehicles is illegal in many states, so, watch for that as well.

In short a radar gun shoots out a frequency wave that is directionally focused, when the wave reaches your vehicle it is reflected “bounces back” to the gun that has a reciever calibrated to read the returning wave. The time delay between the outgoing an returning wave is calculated to determine how fast your car is going.

Yes, there are good ones on the market for several hundred dollars, but I learned a long time ago that it was cheaper to set the cruise control to the speed limit.

BTW,,A favorite trick of the police is to point a detector at traffic and then note which car suddenly nose dived. The guy that hit’s the brakes is the guy way over the limit.
It’s a neat trick and it works .
The other trick is that they don’t tell you how fast you were going. They instead ask you “how fast did you think you were going?”.
Nasty police.
They know most people will say “”Oh,,I wasn’t going that much over the limit officer..”
But,,once you admit that you were over the limit, you have admitted to speeding.
The police have another trick, they use the gun from inside the car, in short bursts, so that stray signals don’t warn others.

So, either slow down or spend a bundle on a radar detector.
Laser/radar detectors do work but not always as well as possible. the sense the radar waves going through the air.
I use a Valentine1. It’s the best radar detector on the market and has the handy arrows. Along with that i have a uniden police scanner to pick up on radios.
