Over the years, I have grown really attached to my home theater system. I must say, of all the rooms in the house, my own little movie theater is the one I could not live without. I am absolutely in love with my home theater system and, if you are anything like me, I am sure you will love yours too. I found, when I was initially building my system, that there was so much information to absorb. Every product out there seemed better than the next, and I found myself unsure about which to buy. Here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for a new home theater projector.
There are two main types of projectors on the market; DLP and LCD. DLP stands for digital light processing. It was invented by Texas Instruments, and utilizes a microscopic array of over 2 million mirrors. DLP has a higher contrast than LCD, but there are some unfavorable consumer reports that note something called the “rainbow effect”. The “rainbow effect” is noticeable when looking from one side of the screen to the other, and is characterized by a sudden burst of color.
LCD stands for liquid crystal display. These projectors have three distinct glass LCD panels inside; one for each component of the video signal (red, green, and blue). While DLP chips reflect light, the LCD panels allow light to pass through them. LCD projectors produce brighter images, and they are known for having excellent color saturation. In the end, you will be hard-pressed to notice a great difference between the two types of projection systems.
When shopping for a new projector, keep your particular needs in the forefront of your thoughts. As I mentioned above, it is really easy to lose yourself in the minutiae of each particular system. Connectivity is a definitely something to be mindful of. Make sure that you are able to connect all of your components, including your gaming system. Nothing beats playing Halo in real-life size! Contract ratio is another important factor; the higher the ratio, the better the picture will be.
The brightness of your projector is another thing to consider. Light output is measured in ANSI (American National Standards Institute) lumens. You will want to avoid a projector that produces anything shy of 1000 lumens. As you are likely aware, the projection resolution is extremely important. This refers to the number of pixels that can be displayed on the screen. Go for something that is no less than 1024×768, as this will allow you to fully appreciate the depth and quality of HDTV. In the end, you should buy the projector that is in line with your needs and your budget. Soprano’s is coming on right now! Time to go!

Increasingly, consumers who want to experience cinema-like viewing in their home opt for a home theater projector. These devices allow users to view their entertainment in a darkened room without the size restrictions of a television screen. However, as most owners will attest to, there is a somewhat significant maintenance expense associated with this type of set up; the expense of the lamp.
Lamp life in a projector is said to be between 2,500 and 4,000 hours but in some instances consumers have reported a lamp life as short as just a few hundred hours. With lamp replacements priced at a few hundred dollars, the shortened life span of a lamp can be an unwelcome surprise. Buyers should take heart however as there are numerous things they can do to help assure their new lamp burns brightly for as long as possible.
• Keep the projector stationary when possible. The filament within the lamp is fragile and is especially vulnerable to damage when it is hot; thus avoiding any jostling, especially when the unit is still hot, is important.
• Keep hands off of the lamp. Bare hands can leave oils on the surface. The oils can get burned onto the surface of the lamp which can cause cracking. Use of a tissue or soft cloth when removing/changing the lamp is wise.
• Turn the lamp off appropriately.
o Turn the lamp off about 5 minutes prior to turning off the projector. This allows the fan to cool the unit.
o Because turning the power on and off can stress the filament due to sudden voltage increase it is wise to avoid turning it on and off unnecessarily when taking a short break in viewing. Use of the “soft start” function can be beneficial if the projector has it.
o On the other hand, an auto standby feature can be useful to assure that the lamp is not inadvertently left burning when viewing is done.
• Keep it clean and cool. Projectors should be housed to assure they are not near a heat source and have adequate venting. There should be nothing obstructing their air intake or exhaust vent. The filter should be cleaned every 3-6 months and changed per manufacturer guidelines to assure good airflow and to keep dust off of the lamp.
As with any light source, the lamp within a projector will eventually fail and need to be replaced. However, proper use and maintenance can help to assure that the projector lamp will realize its full life expectancy rather than placing any unnecessary burden on the owner’s budget.

Texas Instruments DLP Technology tested head to head against LCD Technology
One of the staple activities that any business entity undertakes on a regular basis is the holding of a meeting. The reasons for meetings vary; e.g., discussion of reports, presentation of concepts, issue resolution, etc. Invariably, these meetings require the use of documents to assist in the discussion. When the meeting is between 2 to 3 people, hard copy documents will suffice, but when there are more participants, it is more effective to have everyone viewing just one document so that the interaction is specific to one part of the document. Huddling around a document is one way to do this. However, it does become quite a task. That is why the multimedia projector is fast becoming part of the standard office equipment of most businesses, large and small.
Having a multimedia projector in the office did not use to be so common a few years ago. In fact, it was even considered to be excessive to have one. The early versions were very bulky (some were big enough to fit into a standard check-in suitcase. Some actually even came with one!), difficult to set-up (fickle mindedness seemed to be a design consideration, i.e., you could not just connect it to any medium), required that the venue be completely dark, and cost as much as your boss’s annual salary in terms of acquisition as well as maintenance. The bulb alone, which is almost guaranteed to get busted when the number of hours stated in the manual occurs, probably costs more than all your lights in the office! As a result, only large organizations could actually afford the investment. Smaller organizations had to content themselves with primitive devices like the whiteboard marker, or the traditional overhead projector (a device that projects the content of a hardcopy document printed on transparent film (modern versions can now display documents printed on plain paper). The use of multimedia projectors then was not really considered cost-effective.
The days of the prehistoric multimedia projector, however, are over. Thanks to the new technologies used in designing and manufacturing them, multimedia projectors are now much, much smaller, lighter, project brighter, media-friendlier, (you can connect it to almost any computer or media player. There are even models that do not even require separate equipment! All you need is your disc or flash drive), easier (and, of course, cheaper) to maintain and, most importantly, cost a mere fraction of what their ancestors used to cost. This rise in technological superiority and fall in investment has accelerated the availability of a multimedia projector in almost every business, both large and small which, as a result, has made interaction in meetings more focused, efficient and productive.
There are several suppliers of multimedia projectors (both in brick-and-mortar and online stores) that you can choose from so be sure that before you purchase one, you check out a few of them and ask as many questions as you want so that your purchase is an informed one. They will only be too happy to assist you.

Manufactured projector screens are carefully tested for optimal viewing in different angles. These projection screens are expected to provide the best match to the projectors available in the market. However, some people want to make the projection screens they will use for their home theater viewing. Homemade projection screens can easily be made with lower cost, a little time and some assembly at which will not cost more. They may not be as clear and may not present pictures as accurately as the manufactured projection screens, but there are specific people who still prefer to make their own projection screens not to save money but for their own satisfaction and interest.
The overall idea in making a projection screen is to make a lightweight frame, wrap borders in black fabric, then attach the viewing fabric to the back. And this is not going to take much time, even you and I can fix it if we get chance of watching how its done one or two time.
Materials which can be used for making Projector Screen:
• Lightweight wood. May use: poplar, fir, or choose one you are familiar working with. Get 4 pieces wood that may be made into outer frame for the black border.
• L-brackets and screws
• Black Fabric for Border. May use: Black velveteen
• White Fabric. May use : Photographers white seamless paper, white blackout curtain
• Glue
• Some cutting and attaching tools. Woodsaw, staple gun, scissors, drill, screwdriver.
Materials used in making outer frame of the projector screen:
1. Have the wood cut at the store. Cut two of the outer frame boards to 55.25″ and the other two to 93.5″
2. Cut end of each side outer frame at 45 degrees.
3. Cut the black cloth into 4 wide strips, 2 strips for the shorter sides of the frame, and another 2 for the longer sides. Include extra space for tucking in to sides
4. Wrap the outer frame sides in the black cloth strips. Lay the wood at the center of a strip, pull tautly and staple.
5. Join each side together to form a rectangle frame. Use L-brackets at each corner to hold the frame together
Viewing surface of Projector Screen
6. Attach the white fabric at the wrong side of the black frame of the projection screen. Pull tautly and staple about 8-9 inches apart.
7. Add hooks or hanging implements you want to use for the projector screen.
Enjoy viewing from your own handmade projection screen which will cost much less than the projector screen bought from any outside store.
